Umrah Journey

In the sanctuary of Allah’s Sacred House lies an act of worship with which He has honored His servants, Umrah. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Umrah to Umrah is an expiation for what comes in between them.” In it, hearts are purified and souls are uplifted.

The Virtue of Umrah — Peace for the Heart, A Fresh Start

Introduction to Umrah

Umrah is a journey of worship that joins sincere intention with humble action. It softens the heart, lifts worry, and helps a believer return to Allah with gratitude. As the Prophet ﷺ said: “Umrah to Umrah is an expiation for what comes in between them.”
For readers beginning their Umrah Journey—especially families from Hyderabad—this short Umrah guide for beginners India explains the spirit behind the rites: patience, humility, and mindful worship. Umrah can be performed any time of the year and may be repeated, provided we make space for others, avoid rushing, and keep good manners in the sacred precincts.

From Intention to Completion of the Rituals

The Description of Umrah

Umrah has clear pillars that take a pilgrim from intention to completion. It begins with ihram at the designated miqat: a sincere intention, entering a state of humility, and leaving off regular comforts for Allah’s sake.

Next is tawaf—seven circuits around the Kaaba, starting in line with the Black Stone. Each round is a chance to remember Allah and make heartfelt dua.

Then comes sa‘i between Safa and Marwah for seven laps, beginning at Safa and ending at Marwah. This walk recalls the resolve of our mother Hajar (peace be upon her) and her trust in Allah.

Umrah concludes with halq (shaving) or taqsir (trimming). With this final act, the pilgrim exits ihram and the core rites are complete. These pillars—ihram, tawaf, sa‘i, and halq/taqsir—form the essence of Umrah and guide the believer with clarity and reverence.

Where and When Does the Umrah Journey Begin?

The Appointed Places and Times (Mawaqeet)

Umrah is a blessed act of worship with appointed places and times. The rites only begin from the mawāqīt (miqat points). As for timing, Umrah may be performed throughout the year—on any day and in any month—while procedures during the Hajj season are organized to keep crowds flowing safely for the Guests of Allah.

Regarding the place of ihram, the Prophet ﷺ identified fixed locations that must not be passed while intending Umrah: Dhul-Hulayfah (Abyar ʿAli) for the people of Madinah and those coming by that route; al-Juhfah for travelers from the Levant side; Qarn al-Manāzil (as-Sayl al-Kabīr) for those approaching from Najd; and Yalamlam for those coming from the Yemen direction. Anyone arriving in Makkah should enter ihram when reaching—or aligning with—their designated miqat.

Note for Umrah from Hyderabad:

  • Flying HYD → MED (Madinah first): enter ihram at Dhul-Hulayfah before travelling onward to Makkah.

  • Flying HYD → JED (Jeddah first): you’ll cross a miqat in the air—wear ihram and make your intention before reaching it.

Whoever passes a miqat without ihram while intending Umrah should return to the miqat to enter ihram. If returning isn’t possible, ask a qualified scholar about the ruling on fidyah (compensatory sacrifice). This ensures the sanctity of the rituals is honored and your Umrah Journey stays correct from the very start.
